Does signal strength affect the speed?

....wirelessly speaking of course. i've never had a strength below "very good", but i've been wondering about it. i'm guessing if signal strength gets below "low" then the speed cuts to 24Mbps, but that's why i'm here asking. enlighten me Tech Forums.

not usually...only if the actual data rate changes

but if the signal strength gets low enough, the computer will automatically lower the data rate to make the amount of info traveling across the stream "fit" into the smaller amount of signal
