Hello everyone,

What a cool forum!
I'm having a problem I can't solve on my own. I'm using dial up internet occasionally so I can get different IP addresses, but I also regularly connect to a wireless router that is fed by a cable modem.

I recently installed PeoplePC on my XP Pro SP3 laptop. It connected just fine. I used it for just a little while with no problems until I was unhappy with the slow speed, so I said, "I'll try a different ISP to see if I can get faster dial-up." So, I registered with Juno and installed their software on my computer. That's when the fun began.

At first, the connection was failing with error code 680 (no dial tone). Then, I learned to disable the modem in Device Manager, and that's how I get error code #797, and it specifically says from Juno that another application is using the modem.

I've tried a ton of different ways to solve this, and I am really wanting to avoid reinstalling Windows.

The modem, Agere Systems AC'97 Modem, is internal.

Thanks for any replies I get to this thread.
