Data Transfer Rate

the data transfer rate depends on how fast your network connection is. It is not port specific.

edit: i suppose the data transfer rate can be referred to as how fast the com and lpt ports. in which case the parallel is faster than a serial (com) connection

I think serial port is transfering datas fastly. That is serial port is transfering datas bit by bit. It doesn't wait for another bit to transfer. Where as in parallel port datas are transfering by byte by byte. So it has to wait for one byte of data to transfer. So data transfer rate will be compare to serial port. Is it rite???

the parallel port transfers 8 bits in the time a serial port transfers 1 bits.

think of it like a highway. the parallel highway has 8 lanes and the serial highway has 1 lane.
