i just got a new laptop and i was hoping i could connecting it to my existing network. the problem is i have a hub which is already full with 3 other PCs. what i want to do is use 1 of the existing computers as a gateway and connect my laptop to it using a crossover cable. the problem is i cannot get both computers to connect to the internet, but i can share files over the LAN. both have XP (one pro one home) and i guess im asking if it can even be done. any help would be great

here's what i would try. connect/setup the modem on the gateway pc. Put a second nic in the gateway pc and connect it to the hub's uplink. Connect the three other workstations and set their gateway ip. Your going to have to setup ICS for web access. Also, the gateway pc should be always on.
