Connecting to the Internet

Hi guys, I'm trying to connect my computer to the internet. I just built it and I used a Core i7 920 with an EX58-UD5 Gigabyte mobo. I didn't purchase an extra wireless card or anything, and I have a DSL modem w/ ethernet cable. I thought I just plugged things in and the internet would come...apparently I was wrong lol. I've never done this before, so I'm just wondering how do I get connected to the internet? Thanks for the help

For dsl you will need to set up ppoe on your computer if you are not using a router. You need to know your username and password for the dsl account.

I am also making the leap of faith that you have installed your network drivers and you onboard lan is functional.
