client for microsoft networks

a client is referred to as the software that actually performs the network communication process. i thought it was a peer to peer mode, so why then the client nomenclature.

What exactly are you asking? The "client" for microsoft networks just loads the layer of communication needed to "speak" to other PC users on the same LAN or WAN. This is true for p-2-p or client-server architechs....
