ok never mind about what hardware i need. i just need to know if it can be left out side and now what a really good wireless pci card is. one that already has awsome range and then hook up that antenna to it to make it better.

3COM cards are by the best! They work in almost any environment you put them in.

Now as for that device working in the rain... Wireless is severely limited by the weather such as rain. So if you want to broadcast the signal throughout your neighborhood, you will run into many connection problems. If the connection does go through; the signal won't go as far as it would in perfect weather.

ok but would it be ok in the florida sun for long periods of time(all day) and would it break from being in the rain. im not sure what inside those things if anything?

I don't know about the cantennas, but if it's going to be left outside for long periods of time, I've used antennas from HyperLink Tech.

Take a look at this link.

Edit:

I just remembered something. You may have to put some type of weather sealant around the connector. Here is a link to something similar to what I've used in the past.

I used to work for an ISP that provided high speed wireless internet. We would use this mastic tape to cover the connector, and then wrap that with black electrician's tape. Were we a little anal about it? Yeah, but we didn't want to be called back to these people's houses.

At this place, we had some of the 24 db gain parabolic antennas that had been on top of grain elevators. They had been installed in late 1999, or early 2000, and these antennas were still working when I left in early 2003. I believe that the original antennas are still in place, as I've been talking to a couple of the guys that still work for the ISP.
