I work for a large health care company.

I just recently replaced a PC that had a harddrive failure.

The newly deployed PC is a brand new HP dx2000; it is the first particular model that we have deployed and it has a network card different from all others.

The PC is in active directory and has full internt access, yet I CAN NOT do the following 1) ping the PC, 2) telnet into the PC, 3) PC anywhere into the PC, or 4) access its C drive remotely.

I built the PC with a Windows XP SP1.

Any thoughts?

Is your router configured to forward ping and telnet requests to the new machine.
Most likely the machines firewall is blocking them.

Inside the LAN you do not need to foward. It could however be some internet firewall settings on the router.

+There is a total of 20 PCs all connected to the same switch/LAN. All of the PCs are all on the same IP range.
This is the one and only one that has problems.

+ I can ping the gateway using the PC.

+ I can surf the net, hit network drives, and email on the PC.

+ This PC has the same settings as all of the others on the LAN: no firewall, all internet access is controlled by the same outside servers (websweep, etc), McAfee v8.0 virus scan downloading the same DAT files as all of the others.

you can ping out, but cant ping in. sounds like a firewall or ACL.

edit: maybe try directly connecting to another machine, reload drivers, reseat nic.

I am completely positive that Norton is not used.

I am 95% positive that the windows firewall is off (its SP1 not SP2).

Have you placed the PC on your network or is it in a workgroup?

Have you tried ipconfig to determine any differences?

Have you tried a tracert?

Is your computer using DHCP or is it static?

Have you released and renewed your IP?

Why not switch out the nic card?
....

Just a few things to check out...
