There are 4 computers in the house that link up to my Dlink 604 router.

Two macs. Two pcs.

I just plugged the win 98 pc in and got it online after you guys helped me :)

Now for some reason I can't ping it.

It's like it's not even there.

It has no firewalls no av nothing.

I don't understand what I need to do.

It's possible the Win98 may have ICMP respond filter or disable. If you can get online then that's a good sign that your network card is working properly. I'm not sure where to go about finding the ICMP setting on Win98 for I haven't use it for so long. Might want to google around, I'll see what's up.

So all other 3 computers can't ping the Win98? but can the Win98 ping them? by IP address first, then by name of the computer.

well since i'm a busy guy i don't really know how to ping from a mac -.- my whole family uses macs i'm the only pc guy.

to my knowledge macs dont have anything like dos do they?

In Mac OS X, you can use the terminal, click the finder on the dock, select Macintosh HD, applications, utilities, terminal or network utility

wow thats weird.. i can ping it fine from both macs.

but my pc can't ping it.

Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Thanks

oh wait.. nvm.. for some reason i can ping it now.. guess that was just a temporary problem..
