Cannot access shared resources

mikesgroovin -
when I enabled simple file sharing it worked right away
all the other settings were OK

Law -
all the setting were correct.
I disabled simple file sharing and it stoped working again BUT...
adding the "everyone" into the security tab screen made it work!!!

So how am I best operating?
1. with simple file sharing
2. adding everyone into security tab of all folders I want to share

Will just anybody be able to connect to my wireless workgroup MSHOME and see all my shares>?

Anyone will see your shares in your network, if someone manage to get into your network through your wireless network then that's a problem of it's own. The Everyone group hopefully you only set the permission to read so they don't do any damage to the original file. You can set a password for the guest account if you want in computer management. This will require users to use the guest account and a password.

OK Law...

Forgive me but I am very much an amature when it comes to network structure.

I have set up MAC address restrictions on my router... will that stop people within range of my PC or Laptop from accessing shares?

I could always hide the shares with the $ sign in the name I pressume?

You can use the $ to hide it, that would help.

You need more than the MAC restriction to stop someone. Wireless authentication like WPA with 20 or more character key. Disable SSID broadcasting.
