Does anybody know what 10/100/1000 mbs per second means in terms of actual performance? Like how fast one speed would be compared to the other?

All are just throughput. The standard today is 100mbit/s and is now becoming 1000mbit/s or 1 gbit/s. Actual performance varies but 100mbit is enough for general use.
