Hi, I just got my new computer running and need help hooking up my DSL setup. I have the CAT5 cable hooked up but need to know if there is any install disks I need to activate it or what. My connection does get recognized but when I open Explorer nothing. Ive tryed to setup a connection but didn't work. If any of you know the process to get this running, pleaes let me know.

I posted this in the Software Section also, because I didn't see this forum at the time.

Umm, is a modem something you have to put into the motherboard. If you mean what DSL I have is SBC. But, I didn't put any modemn card into my case.

dsl requires an external modem that you connect your phone line to. A cat5 cable connects the modem to your computer.

Did you install the microfilters for each device on your phone line? Do you get all green lights on the modem?

You say that the connection is recognized, what makes you believe this?

SBC is most likely a pppoe connection if you are hooking directly to the modem you will most likely have to install the sbc software. You should have received a self install kit from SBC. It will include two cables and a bag of filters, as well as a modem. The modem is an external modem.

Ok when I goto the network connections folder, it says my connection is active and is firewalled and running at 400 mbps. Then I right click the connection and click repair. It then says Windows failed to fix connection problem because of following problem. Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connect. Contact the person who manages your connection. So what do you think the problem could be. This is why I know it recognized connection. Yes, all 3 green light are on. And no, I have not installed ANY drivers or anything.

whats the name of that connection? I'm thinking your looking at a firewire connection which should be labeled as 1394 or the like.

Exactly that what it is named. What does a fire wire connection mean? I also got tech support on the phone and apparently i don't have a ethernet driver installed that needs to be. Is this my only problem?
