bridging wired network using windows server 2003 with dhcp

I have 2 linksys routers and i want to setup a complete home network.

My problems come from this.....
Upstairs, all my computers there see each other.
Downstair, all my computer there see each other.

The Upstairs computers do not see the Downstairs computers and vice versa.....

Can anyone help me.....
The funny thing, is that I can access the ftp on my webserver which is located in the upstair netowrk.....but yet....windows networking doesnt want to work....

Upstairs router...
BEFSX41
Downstair router
WRT54GS

If you could access the FTP server, which IP address are you using to access it?

Make sure all computer are in the same network and subnet mask. Because you are connected with switches, not router to router. Then Ping each other to get a reply if you do then we can start file sharing. But if you don't we will have to figure out what is wrong with the network before we can even file share. The ping program is a great tool for testing that out.

Ok, I added a server to the mix, there was one on the network, but it wasnt the centerpiece.......
I have multiple nics on the server with windows 2003 server on it..

Here is a new diagram........

****************Linsys Cable Modem
**********************|
******Lksys Router A----Server----Lksys Router B
********|******|*************|***|******|
Wkstation A*****|********Wkstation C*|******|
*********Wkstation B**************|****Wkstation D
******************************Wkstation E

I have many questions on how to setup the routers and the server.....
Like do I connect the server via [Internet] port on the routers or one of the computer ports....
Do I set the routers to router mode or gateway mode....
How would I bridge it now......

You have 3 NIC card on the server 2003, 1 NIC connects to the routerA lan port, then two computer connects to it. The other NIC connects to routerB lan port. Disable DHCP on the routers, You need to install DHCP on the server 2003. Provide 2 scopes in the DHCP. You will have 2 network setup here for your LAN.

Heres an example. Scope 1 will be network 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 on the NIC that attaches routerA. You will exclude address 192.168.1.1, this address will be staticly assign to the NIC on the server with netmask of 255.255.255.0, no default gateway. DNS will be either the ISP address or if you have DNS install it should point to the server 2003, which in turns acts as a DNS cache which forward request to the ISP DNS server.

Scope 2 will be 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.254 on NIC that is attached to routerB. Same thing, exclude 192.168.2.1 for the NIC on the server to be enter staticly, same thing as above, no default gateway. DNS is the same as above.

In DHCP on the server 2003, create a scope option default gateway for the 192.168.1.1 and 2.1

Then you'll need to install Routing and Remote RAS, which allows it to act like a router so it can forward packets to different networks which you have running on each NIC. Refer to this site https://www.netscum.dk/technet/archive/winntas/proddocs/rras40/rrasch03.mspx?mfr=true

I have done it before but I don't remember the steps.

And last the 3rd NIC should be attached to the MODEM, it should be set to automaticly obtain an IP address from the ISP.

The clients will recieve the DHCP from the server, it's address will depend on which switch it's connected to.

Remeber, what you are doing is turning your home router into switches by just using the LAN ports, that is why you need to disable DHCP. Any other setting do not apply to this switch.

Forgot to mention, you also want to exclude 1 more address for your switch, this way you can connect to it. For example, you exlude 192.168.1.1 for the NIC which in turn is used for the default gateway for the client. Then you will exlude 192.168.1.2 which in turn will be used for your switch. So you get into your switch and you change the IP address to whatever you exclude so that next time you can just enter the configuration page without resetting it.

I was given this link by linksys tech

http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=640&p_created=1084218912&p_sid=y_Qyq26i&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9OCZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfc2NmX2xhbmc9MSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PUlDUw**&p_li=&p_topview=1
My setup is very similar to the one in the diagram....

It says very vaguely how to configure the networks......
OK
This is what I have so far.

Server
192.168.0.1

Router A
IP
192.168.0.254

Router B
192.168.1.254

Everything is connected according to the linksys site......not by wan, but on the lan port....every server uplink is on number port #1.

I attempted to confiure the DHCP in dhcp options window.....

I go to DHCP
I click on my server
Added new scope....and got the wizard
Named it upstairs router
Starting IP 192.168.0.2
Ending IP 192.168.0.253
Length 24
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Skip over excluded address(since they are not even in dhcp scope
Then I keep clicking next....next....
"To add an IP address for a router used by clients..."
So i put in 192.168.0.254(address of the router)
I skip over dns resolution
I skip over wins resolution.

Next to scope....I get "Scope 192.168.0.0" which is an incorrect scope....am i doint anything wrong.....i try to renew dhcp on the router....but the address leases are still empty.....

I have also bound both routers together using a Mac Miniiport Bridge in my computer.
Also, I have turned on ICS under the only connection left under high-speed internet.

Any help is appreciated.....

i hope you have nat or some type of firewall up otherwise you are leaving yourself wideopen to the outside world.

i got a firewall....
I mean....what is anyone gonna do.....hack in and steal my porn....
GO ahead....take it......
I would give you my ftp address.....so you have easier access to it...
But as you can see.....im just stuck on this part of the puzzle...
