Bad/good experiences... Cable modems

My uncle has a Thomson cable modem and he gets disconnected all the time and this morning his internet was 0.1KB/s and slower.

My aunt has a Motorola modem and it always works, very fast, never disconnects.

(same ISP)

Does anybody else have bad/good experiences with these brands?

I've heard Linksys and Motorolla are the best brands. Never heard of Thompson. D-Link also makes a good one.

My parent's use a Motorola back up in Northern MN and it works great. The service isn't the most stable, but the modem is a workhorse.

I've used a Motorola and a Toshiba cable modem. I never had a problem with either one.

I still use the Toshiba modem at home. My work shipped me to South Dakota for 6 months. I wanted internet access up there, and used the Motorola.

I have used the same Toshiba Cable modem Time Warner Road runner provided me with for over 3 years with no problems at all. It has been really stable and the only time I ever have a connection issue is when the actual cable is out (meaning no TV!!!the bastards!!).

It could be a bad modem or bad settings. Modems are pretty cheap now a days.
