Okay, as you can see in the picture above, there are 3 computers that should be on a network.

The cable modem and Linksys router (model# befw11s4) are hooked up to the iMac.

The Compaq has a wireless adapter and is able to pick up the signal with the router.

The Dell in my bedroom is hooked up to a Linksys adapter and is NO LONGER able to connect to the router.

------
As you can see in the picture, the Dell computer is in my bedroom, and my parents don't know about it. I use the iMac in the living room and my parents' Compaq is situated close to the iMac in the living room, which is not the best for me since I am under their nose a lot. So my boyfriend gave me his old Dell for my bedroom, and it has been hidden in my bedroom for the past year, and I have been using it on the internet during the past year on the wireless network, UNTIL LAST WEEK.

Last week, my dad was reading Consumer Reports magazine about how people in the neighborhood and people driving by our house in a car can look for wireless signals, so my dad went into the settings of the wireless-network and made it so only his computer, the Compaq, can be on the wireless network. The second he did that, I lost internet access to my bedroom.

My question is, how can I restore internet access to my bedroom ? I turned on his Compaq, and I opened Internet-Explorer and went to the url of http://192.168.1.1/ ; and tried to get in by typing ADMIN as the password, but I cannot get in and change the wireless settings. Anyone have any pointers on how I can gain access to the wireless settings and change them, so I can get the internet back on in my bedroom ???

The username and password are in the router, not the NIC, so unless you know the password you can't change it.

Try resetting the router (theres a reset button on the back), that should clear the user name and password.

Edit:

I see what your saying now about switching the cards, then her mac address will be accepted.

But then her father will surely notice that when he goes back into the router to reconfigure it.

Okay, I found that RESET button you mentioned - but haven't pushed it yet.

Also, from reading this thread, it seems that the password/settings that my dad put into place last week are stored within the router. So I guess if I hit the RESET button, then those settings would be erased, and I could then use the internet on that hidden 3rd computer in my bedroom.

Just one question, if I RESET the router, will my dad get a message on his Windows screen the next time he turns on the computer, a message in the lower-right hand of the screen in the toolbar telling him that the router has been reset ???

I'm just about to push that RESET button, but am worried he could find out the next time he turns on his computer.

Also, being that the router can remember passwords and settings, is there anyway a router can remember all websites that a computer or user visits ???

No I dont think a router can remember websites. Just be sure to go into tools, internet options and delete cookies, delete files and clear history. Also, I have some questions, if you dont mind me asking.

1. How do you hide a big ass desktop with a monitor?
2. The only people that have asked me how to hide their internet activity are younger boys that look at porn. BUT ive never had a girl ask me. Is it porn?

No matter what you do here, it'll be a little risky and depend on how much knowledge your Dad has about computers. From the sound of it, he probably doesn't check the router config all the time. I hardly ever go into mine, once it's setup properly. No there won't be any warnings that popup on your Dad's computer, and if he doesn't check the router settings, he'll never notice. If he does notice and ask you about it you could always act innocent and dumb and say that maybe a powerstorm reset it (girls are good at that ;) ).

The easiest way for you to get internet is to reset the router. But also remember that by default wireless is disabled in routers. So you'll have to reset it when no one is on and at a time that no one will be getting on for the next couple of minutes. Once you reset the router just go back into the router and enable wireless. That should be all you have to do.

EDIT: I just looked at your pic and if that is the same router you have it's Linksys. I've had a few Linksys routers and on all of them wireless is disable by default. After I thought about it and I realized that if wireless is disabled, you will have to connect to the router with an ethernet cable to change the config of it. That doesn't change anything of what I said earlier except that it'll be obvious of what you're doing if anyone is around.
