What is the difference between 2.4ghz and 5ghz? Is mixed mode better or sticking to 1 frequency channel?

Intel® WiFi Products - Interference from 2.4 GHz cordless telephones

When a 2.4 GHz cordless telephone is powered on or in use near a wireless LAN access point, network adapter, or another wireless device, the following issues may occur:

Connection disconnects
Pauses or disruptions in data transmissions
Erratic connection behaviors

Cause:
2.4 GHz cordless telephones operate at the same frequencies as 2.4 GHz 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n wireless LAN access points, network adapters, and other devices (Bluetooth*, baby monitors, garage door openers, some wireless toys, etc.).

Just for future reference, it might be easier for an assortment of people to answer a question involving an acronym when you:
  • Define it (if you know what it is)
  • Give an example when you see this acronym come up

Just because some might get it confused with something else and then, in turn, might give you a different answer than you were expecting

WPS (Wifi-Protected Service or Setup (can't remember which)) is just an easy way to setup several devices using the same WPA passphrase, SSID and perhaps different security options on your Wi-Fi network.
It is never necessary, but might come in handy to ensure that you are getting the same passphrases or Hex in the right fields. Might come in handy over larger networks.

EDIT: just looked it up and you may want to go over some of the measures involved. But, like I said. It's never a necessity. Just a convenience.
