You can always use Cedega...or wine.

That is, if you want to pay a subsription for an un-stable software that if very difficult to use.

have you ever used it?

"point2play" is a gui for it, making it VERY EASY to use, seriously, you've gotta be a moron not to be able to figure it out.

it's not designed for windows users. if you can use linux effectively, then you can use cedega.

its pretty **** stable on my system ... are you using fedora or something? in my 6 months of using it, i havent had ANY problems. the only problems i had were when i was trying to run autocad in it (lol crossover office wasnt working too good, so i figured it might work it cedega) and you know what the problem was? it gave an error message and didnt run. i play battlefield 1942 (all 4 of them) and battlefield 2, call of duty 2, half life 2 (and hl:s cs:s yeah) and i recently got fear working. i havent tried farcry yet but i think i might go get it after christmas.

the subscription is 5 dollars a month, i can find that much change in the ****ing couch. you make it seem like its soooo expensive, and the money goes straight into the developer's pockets and then they go buy drugs and child porn with it or something. you are supporting something GOOD. now, if you want to go pay two hundred dollars for windows, and support the evil greedy company that is microsoft, then go ahead, but if you want to support the linux community, pay the god **** subscription and quit your *****ing and moaning and stop bad mouthing something you dont/cant use.

one more thing ... i really dont understand why they claim doom 3 and quake 4 as supported in cedega ...

If a game is OpenGL, it will work well in Linux. DirectX9 games wont run in Linux and unfortunately most games run in DirectX 9.

Sorry, as long as Microsoft is forcing game developers to use DX9, Linux will never be a gaming OS.

yeah cedega supports dx9

Chill out bro...

You obviously have a problem when people bring up the cons of these programs and in MY opinion they are worth mentioning.

The thing is, in Windows it is way easy to get games running...just install them. No configuration or knowledge of CLi or anything of the sort.

I have no problem using the CLi to get things done, but for anyone that has been using Windows forever jumping into the Linux way of doing things is not a fun thing...thus we are not seeing a huge switch to Linux in gaming.

I still have a huge problem having to pay subscriptions to do things, I already know your argument as you made it clear earlier in another thread, but that is my opinion.

All I hear about cedega and wine is that they are difficult for first time users and they tend to be very buggy.

Oh yeah...and I am using Slackware...

..... Well, Danm!! I thought I had a bad mouth!

I've programmed with DX 8.1, and it seems to be REALLY easy to program standard 3D events with it. OpenGL seems a bit more complicated, as it is desinged to work on more than one platform. Anyone familiar with the assembly code of Windows can easilly get used to it, but i'd rather be a MAC programmer. ;)

Yeah...good grief general chill out.

I wasn't moaning about it man, I was saying the reasons I don't like it.

i voted for Windows because i never used the other OSs. and i don't see any reason for someone to use other OS because simply windows is the best OS and it is most popular OS.

And why did u put other on the poll ?, Is there other OS different from windows, Linux and MAC OS ?? i didn't know that
