anybody have an idea about uuid's present on a particular linux system?
you can get the uuid of your system by using hardware probing tools like 'hwinfo' . i know what a 'uuid' is...i just want to know that when it is created inside my system
1) on what factors it is based??
2) where is it stored?

any help is sincerely appreciated....

p.s. please don't ask me why i need something like this...thanks!!

there is a command called uuidgen but it gives a different uuid each time. actually i think that one particular uuid is fixed for a system, so does anyone have any idea as to where i should look??
thanks for your time... c ya!!

I am guessing you need the uuid fo a hard drive? Isnt that just info used to boot the system? I know i have used uuid info to get EasyBCD to boot my Ubuntu. but where it i sstored i can not say.

according to my RnD there are different uuids for a given system. one of them is hdd. but doesnt anyone have any more info on this??
