Hey everyone,

I am going to acquire a used computer and install Red Hat 9 onto it. I am going to use it for basic tasks like web surfing, E-mail, word-processing some Linux games as well as a print/file server. I am also going to network it to my Windows XP Pro computer. What specs would you recommend that the computer I am going to buy have?

Also I know from experience that Red Hat doesn't like WinModems, does anyone know where I could find a controller based modem?

Thanks!

For those types of tasks, just go for an old Pentium 4 or something, like a 2.0Ghz. Nothing special.

What!, you dont even need that. I put Ubuntu on a p3 Celeron - 800mhz with 320mb Ram. It runs nicely and it connects to the net. I also put Ubuntu on a p3-450mhz, 192mb Ram and it ran smoothly as well.
