I know this may be somewhat off-topic for this subject, but does anyone know anything about installing TOR on CentOS 7? I tried to do it via creating a script file in the yum/repo.d/ directory, pasted the required text into the document from the TorProject website, and got the same error message when trying to yum install/update. Any suggestions?

What error?
Things in the /etc/yum.repo.d/ directory shouldn't be scripts. They should describe what repositories you will update from and their requirements.

Looks like the RPM repo wasn't maintained so they removed it:
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/19501

I think I know which instructions you were following, it's pretty easy to find
These are the official ones:
https://2019.www.torproject.org/docs...c-unix.html.en

Else you can download it here: https://www.torproject.org/download/
