so ive heard this is like linux? do i need linux inorder to install this ubuntu?

and will it work on a dual core amd athlon 64 x 2 4000+ am2?

No it is not "like" Linux. Ubuntu is Linux. It is a OS. You use it to install to your machine. Check out their website for all this information.

Yes it will work on your system just fine. Linux is made to work with older machine as well as new machines.
