edit: woops i didnt read the last post.....

download the ISO's via bittorrent ... i always get speeds at or above 600kb/s when i download knoppix or debian iso's.

or you can go to www.ubuntulinux.org and they will ship you cd's for free.

1. based on debian. but it turns out like the lead developer there is also connected to the lead developers or something with gnome so it usually comes with a newer version of gnome,

2. they send you cds for free.

3. it works better than suse...

4. to install programs you type "apt-get install program-name" ... no more downloading packages and all that.

all that. i would still go with debian.

One question about Debian, is it easier to install things? because what I am getting with suse is either scripts or YaST. How do you use the scripts?

EDIT:

as I read more and more this is making more sence, so let me just say what I want to do with my OS: I want to use it almost like windows (use wine to play windows games and listen to streaming music, maybe watch some movies) but have it pretty easy, I don't mind some commands it's part of the linux experience. I have Red Hat 7.3 and Ubuntu CDs and a DSL connection so it really does not matter.
