hi,

i am trying to use the command "updatedb" under root on SuSe Linux 9.2 Pro but it doesn't work :

linux:/home/rayen # updatedb
bash: updatedb: command not found

how can I fix this?

( I already did the 'nobody'-thing, but it still doesnt work)

login as root and give it a try, also see if slocate is even installed, updatedb is nothing more than a shortcut for slocate -u

yast? never used it

try man yast for details about yast, or goto Suse's goofy website and see what theyve got tutorial wise

horndude : Thanks I found the solution, I needed to install a package called
findutils-locate, i could simply install this by typing: yast -i findutils-locate
the updatedb command works again :)

edit: in the topic name I said it was a 'bug', but it really isn't a bug, i just needed to install the right package :p

yast must be Suse version of a package management system

This one of the issues linux will have to deal with sooner or later, redhat has RPM,gentoo has EMERGE, debian has DEB packages, slackware uses TGZ packages, and Suse uses yast to install debian packages, its getting to where there's way too many of them
