squid on ubuntu

I'm trying to install squid proxy server on ubuntu and it keeps saying "no acceptable c compiler found in $PATH" I have the GCC package installed but I don't know what else to do for it to find a compiler. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try this:

apt-get install squid

that seems to have worked, thanks. I decided to use Fedora Core installed as a server instead because it automatically installs the package. Thanks for your help.

No problem. Whenever I want to install something I check the repos first, and if it is not there I google for a .deb package. If I can't find one of those then I resort to checkinstall or alien.

And if those don't work you get to compile it yourself.
