I was looking through the "Services" menu and accidentally messed up the sound on my laptop. I have it working again, but it's much quieter than usual - something easily heard at less than half max volume earlier now needs to be nearly maxxed out. It uses a IXP SB400 AC'97 audio controller.

Thanks for your help. If you need any more info, just tell me and I'll find it.

Right now I'm using ALSA. I tried switching to OSS to see if there was a difference, but it doesn't work (popped up error message).

Run "gnome-volume-control" and make sure the PCM is turned up as well as the Master.
