Hey guys, I am finally making the dive into the Linux world and have been rather disappointed. I know the computer is not the best (dell inspiron laptop P3 800mhz 128mb ram). However, it was running windows 2000 very quickly. I installed Suse 10 from www.opensuse.org. It runs and I have enjoyed messing around with it but it is SUPER slow. Can anyone recommend a linux distro for noobs that will work better with this slow system?

I am trying to become somewhat Linux Savvy, do you think this DSL will assist in this venture or would that be like learning windows 3.1

Try Vector Linux. Nice and light Slackware-based distribution.

The default Window Manager (IceWM) is very speedy. It's a bit too Windows-like in design for my tastes, but that may suit you.

Debain or DSL

Ive ran debian off 128MB of ram before, You should be fine as long as you don't use kde as your xserver interface I recomend fluxbox for systems with less then 256MB of ram but you will be fine with gnome. (As long as you don't open too many apps at once)
