I used Thunderbird 0.5 on XP for quite a long time and it work excellent for me.
Recently I gave up Windoze and went to Slackware 9.1 and tried Thunderbird again.
It works ok as long as I log on as root (imported my mail, a.s.o.), but, on other users, it starts, asks me about accounts and stuff, then shuts down.
I tried it with another user (saf), which is in users group and also a member of the root group.
The dir /usr/local/bin/thunderbird and the subdirs are owned by saf.
Also, this users has acces to LAN and internet.
Could you help me pls? I've been at this for the past 3 weeks and I'm sick of logging out saf and logging and root and startx-ing just to see my mail.
