remote access help

An out of state friend of mine was given an Acer Aspire One with linux from her dad. She is not very tech savy so that is all the INFO I have atm.

Is there a simple way of logging onto her computer remotely from a WinXP SP3 pc? She is asking me for some help and because I have never even seen one of these things I don't know my way around it and cannot walk her through anything as simple as changing desktop settings.

I would prefer to ghost her machine (Access it at the same time as her so she can watch.) but only if it can be done without much tech know how on her part.

Wish I could tell you what OS she has installed. She doesn't even know that. BLAH! Parents can be so dumb. Get you kids something they can actually use!!

Well the problem is that they are on different networks so you would either have to know her external IP and she could forward a port for you on her router or use an external service like logmein or gotomypc or whatever.
