Recently I tried to copy a file onto my USB key. I was using Helix linux distro. Now when I tried to copy the file from the HD on to the USB key it told me that it can not create a directory because I have Read-only rights on my USK key. I tried pretty much every thing including chomoding it but nothing worked.

Did you check the permissions? I know helix is funny about this in some respects as it is a forensic distribution an dosent like it when some one tries to write to media.

Yea use Ubuntu, Helix is a VERY SPECIALIZED distro it shouldn't be used by any one other than a expert trying to figgure out just what the **** happened to that server with the payrole details.
