Nvidia Drivers on Xubuntu 8.04

I just formatted by Toshiba Tecra M2 and installed xubuntu 8.04 on it and I cannot figure out how to install my video drivers that i downloaded. I am using the FX5200 Go video card.

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12.pkg1.run

that's what the package name is. can somone help me figure out how to install this?? my google searches came out negative for being helpful.

how do i run the command as a root user?

In Terminal type in Sudo

ok now it says to disable the X server, how do i do this?

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

One more little problem. How do i get the default panel on the bottom? it has the trash and you can select between desktops, ect.

Right click - add panel? Or create panel? I'm not at a linux machine to see for myself but I thought that was it. Did you accidentally delete your's?

no i mean get it back to the default panels, yes i accidentally deleted it
