Noob Guide for Ubuntu?

Well as I have learned, if you are a noob Ubuntu can be challenging. I really want to stick with it but am having a hard time learning how to install stuff. If anyone knows a really basic guide explaining how to install programs in Ubuntu, that would be nice. Also I am having a hard time trying to get wine to run Ventrilo.

is there a way you could use teamspeak instead of vent? teamspeak has a linux client. and i hear vent has one in development

It is in development, but no usable clients (Alpha, Beta, or otherwise) have been released yet.

sudo apt-get install [i]program[/i]

Running that in the terminal will install many (but not all) of the programs you might want.
