i am a newb, to linux that is. And i would like to ask you guys some questions:

I am using SUsE9.1

1. can i use windows programs on linux?
2. where can i get WineHQ
3. how do i switch from KDE to GNOME
4. are there any messenger programs for linx and if yes where?

THANKS a bunch

1.Some yes, why would you want to.........
2.probably wine.org, google for wine
3.No clue, not a Suse user
4.Lots, which one do you want, you know there are websites with precompiled apps available for linux, whats the Suse website look like these days?Have you ever visted it?That would be the best place to start.

The reason i want to use some of the windows programs is because i want to use my old programs like Photoshop on it.

OK thanx i will check it out and people feel free to post more things on here.

1. With Wine, but it's not worth it
2. http://winehq.org
3. There's a way, but I can't remember it and I wouldn't recommend it. GNOME under SUSE 9.1 can get really screwed up with the tip of a hat.
4. Kopete, GAIM, and too many others. I never could get GAIM to compile right under 9.1 on my box. If that's the case you may want to try Kopete

On your login screen, is there anything that says "session"? You should be able to change what you use from there...
