Mouse Questions

Right now i'm using an old ps/2 because i couldn't get my wireless one to work but now i want to figure it out.
i have a logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo. whenever i make changes and try to swap mice neither one works and i have to restart to have a mouse again. what can i do instead of restarting?
