So, with LiveCDs, can you save files and will it still show up next time - or is it gone after that session is over? Also, how can I effectively create a partition for an OS (ie Debian)? Thanks

no, it is exactly the same every time you boot it up

i think you can put a live linux version on a usb flash drive and you can save stuff like that, but im not sure

you can safe files to the harddrive if its fat32 or less. Linux has a problem writing NTFS.

it is possible as most live esk linux firewall distros use usb/floppy to store there config files. Like m0n0wall and so forth.

true, however theres a prog called captive that provides reliable full read/write ntfs access, its a bit slow when copying very large files but other than that its very good, some distros include it , the kanotix live cd includes it

....or if your system is fat32 or you manage to get captive working, you can then create a persistant /home directory.
