it says it cant find /media/hda1 or hda5, 6 etc in the fstab or mtab??? what is going on .. can i not just edit a file to put it in and then run commands?

philg: where do i edit the fstab file to automatically mount it? i see that all my ntfs partitions are listed in there so how come i cant mount them properly unless using disk manager?

Did you create those directories like I told you in my previous post?

it didnt let me create them because they were already there and mounted? but they just come up with a red cross on the folder icon.

/dev/hdb1 /media/hdb1 ntfs ro,umask=0222,uid=flatcap,gid=winuser 0 0

i will try this next time i boot ubuntu, thanks. does this goes in fstab or where?
