i am aquirring a couple old ibm laptops for really cheap and i am putting ubuntu on them. I want to turn it into a media laptop and was wondering if ubuntu was a good linux program to do so.

what about xbmc? i should only have to updgrade the hdd and maybe memory correct. the laptops are about 5 years old or maybe a lil older. if i upgrade the hdd and the ram they should work excellent for this project right?

XBMC is a pain to install an use, just look at the fedora 7 on the ps3 thread for reasons.

No you should just stop looking at pressing a Xbox into servace as media center an use a older PC or just build a new one.

im using an old ibm laptop that i am acquiring for $25 bucks. i was just going to throw a dvd burner and a larger hdd in it.. i was just wondering to run that what would i have to update probably on the laptop. i just asked about xbmc because i seen it on hackaday.com.

sorry i guess i didnt make that very clear.. when i was talking of upgrading i was talking of the laptops.
