Thanks everyone. I think a new netbook is on the way to bring her into the 21st century. Frustration with old electronics is only worth so much. And now she can have that darn e-mail thing in her house. Thanks for all the input

She may have difficulty using a netbook; the screens are tiny, as are the keyboards and the trackpad (which are pretty poor at the best of times) is virtually unusable if you're doing anything but the most trivial task.
Instead, I would recommend a small form factor PC, they come in at a similar price point but perform better and I think she will be more comfortable using it.

If you have the original Live CD (before you made the Live USB) you can use LC ISO Creator
Download LC ISO Creator 1.1 Free - It created ISO files from CD/DVD-ROM - Softpedia
All you do is insert the original Live CD open LCISO and then hit create ISO, this will then create an ISO of the CD original on your Hard drive that you can then burn onto a CD using burning software
