Is Kali Linux hard to understand?

Kali Linux as an OS, is it hard to understand. Is their much of a learning curve with it. How experienced with Linux do you need to be to get up and running with it. I'm a bit confused as to the complexity of it.

Kali itself is just basically Debian/Ubuntu with penetration testing tools built-in. Using the OS? It's just like any other distro...as for the tools...yes there are steep learning curves. That's why they offer paid courses to become certified. There's also lots of tutorials out on YouTube and other places.

Also, DO NOT use any of the tools found in Kali Linux on hardware or equipment that does not belong to you without prior permission from its owner. If used incorrectly, these tools can wreak all kinds of havoc. (I remember someone turning a corporate network into a small botnet using a metasploit exploit which resulted in the company being wrongly sued for DDoS'ing a government website)

Because it's illegal to do so.

I'm using Kali in a VM for ethical hacking. (I'm still learning)
If you're not an ethical hacker or security specialist, it's not necessary to use this OS. You'll get better with an other Debian or Ubuntu distribution. For example, I'm using Fedora 25 KDE (Red Hat dist.) on my main machine. If you are not only in the terminal, this distribution is much easier to use. If you are working on the desktop mainly, so I recommend to compare the various desktop versions (KDE, Gnome, xfce, etc.) to find the best for you.
You don't have to work with kali just because they have a nice logo or someone told you: hey, get a look at kali ;)

Some of the tools in Kali can be difficult. Others are straight forward and very easy to use. The command line is basic enough. On average many of the skiddie programs do the same as the the learning curve ones so no worries there.
