John the ripper, Kali not working

Im starting to learn how to navigate Unix command line but I cant get John the Ripper to work. The hash file I'm using (password.txt) contains myuser:AZl.zWwxIh15Q .
I ran john with noi no arguments and got the following

root@thomst1-kali:~# /usr/sbin/john password.txt
Loaded 1 password hash (Traditional DES [128/128 BS SSE2-16])
Crash recovery file is locked: /root/.john/john.rec
root@thomst1-kali:~#

What am I supposed to do?

The problem with the second one was it didn't have a username. Mine has myuser as the user name. I'm not in class now and don't have kali at home so will try the first link's fix tomorrow. Thanks
