HOW DO I FORMAT MY HD IN LINUX!!! I'm stuck right now, I tought it formatted it and its still booting back into freaking linux. I have no idea whats going on, so I am coming here. I need to know how to just wipe out everything through linux.

Is there a command prompt or something...

That depends on what filesystem you want to format it as. Try these: Ext3 filesystem: mke2fs -j /dev/hdaX (or sdaX for SATA/SCSI). Reiserfs filesystem: mkreiserfs /dev/hdaX (or sdaX).

no, it looks like he wants to get rid of linux...

go to http://www.bootdisk.com and download the windows98 bootdisk and install it to a floppy, reboot and enter fdisk and delete the non-dos partition... then you can use the disk to format the drive to fat32 or use your windows xp disk to format to NTFS

boot up a gentoo, slackware, or older redhat linux install disk, use it to wipe the partition(s)

or use a knoppix disk

I had a similar problem. (Note I am using Windows ME)

Just type in fdisk /mbr in MSDOS. This will format the boot sector of the hard drive. Then, reformat it regularly.
