Without having experience with SUSE nope, I dont use distro's that automate stuff like this just for this reason, too easy to get dependent on it and then stuck when it doesnt work.
Ok, lets see........what dialer script does SUSE use?Finding that would be a good place to start.Also try to figure out which port the modem is using.Everything in linux is treated as a file including devices.
Have you poked around the /usr/docs section and done any reading?
For the moment im kinda stumped.
you can try manually probing the ports, like maybe:
echo "atdt" /dev/cua1 or something to that effect
