I tried redhat 5.2 and 7.0; slackware 3.5,9.1,and 10.0;bacilinux(floppy distro based on slack);knoppix;linux from scratch;mandrake;sun OS;debian; and some others.

I went back to slackware and stayed with it, bottom line, its simple, and it just plain works,it has killer support from the community, you ask a question on linuxquestions.org and you can expect an answer in minutes. My main thing im into is videos and movies, the amount of tools for that under linux blows windows away.

well, looks like the prob has been solved on this thread... But if you really want to get into linux, and you are a beginner, just to prevent the problem of "going back to windows". Pick up a live CD Distro. I've seen many of them on the interweb (I personally prefer Mandrake Move) like versions of slackware, etc... I'm sure there is one out there that is similar to SuSe. Look into it. And have fun with linux, forget about smelly windows...
