horndude is right on the money here,

yes it is true that linux is running safer than windows but that is mostly because of its lack of popularity. If linux had a 99% market share you would be seeing patches on a daily basis.

Linux is an OS, it has its flaws as well, excercising proper caution and common sense will help a great deal!
