For a that I would recommend Vector Linux, it is based on gentoo but eaiser.
http://www.vectorlinux.com/

I don't really recommend gentoo though because of the compiling time without much speed difference.

Are you a new user?

The standard has light window managers and applications most suitable for a internet machine, while SOHO (Small Office, Home Office) has KDE installed and office and finance software.

If you are new to linux, I suggest you look at a different disto. I have heard things about vector being easy for some people. Gentoo is more of a advance distrobution.

yes gentoo will run on an 800mhz celeron

gentoo isnt for rookies, its nothing more than a semi automated linux from scratch with the portgage package manager added to it

i installed the ISO to a CD-R and i turned off my computer and booted it back up and it didnt even recognize the cd??? where did i go wromg....i downloaded the Ia64 version

Ia32 or x86?...what does that take? i thought ne OS could run on ne comp...i thought that Linux made an OS for every system! MB! lol
