First time partitioning a HDD to dual boot. Need advice.

how would i install Ubuntu onto a primary partition on my HDD and keep Windows 7 OS too?????

Thanks for the help...ive now gotten ubuntu and windows xp side by side. but im having problems with the Thunderbird email app. i got an account setup but i tried to test it out by sending an email to myself. it gave me an error saying SMTP server .ymail.com is unknown. configuration may be incorrect. idk what to do at this point....any idea???

Well it looks like you have a space in the address. Shouldnt it be server.ymail.com? You will have to check with ymail to make sure the server settings are correct.
