emacs won't start

I am no linux guru so bear with me...


I want to learn how to use emacs.

When I trying to run emacs from the shell by typing:

emacs&


The message: Undefined color: "TEXTFG"

is displayed and emacs does not start...


any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated!
