Is disk partitioning safe, that is the only thing holding me back from installing linux.

-thanks-

Jul89,

You have to worry a bit, if you are trying to install linux in the same HDD as windows. In that case , you can partition your drive for linux from windows using some 3rd party partition managers.

.In case, you have a separate disc for installing linux, you dont have to worry about anything. And btw, what distro are you going to install?

thanks for the help. I am planning on installing SuSe 9.1 as it is the only one I have downloaded so far.

Disk partitioning is very safe if the partitions are empty. Moving/resizing partitions that contain data is a bit risky, but usually works fine. As long as you use a good program like Partition Magic.

On a friend's computer, in windows, he has three partitions:

+ One for Windows
+ A bulk partition for storage
+ An empty 12 Gig partition that I left over for Linux

So, do I need to run boot magic? And if I do have to, would it recognize this partition that I have saved for Linux?

If the Linux is a newer version its own bootloader will recognize windows and show a bootmenu to choose the OS.
