can't find webpages but i can ping

i've tried to go to multiple webpages using both mozilla and firefox but i keep getting the XXXXXXXXXXX could not be found, please check the name and try again error. i'm able to go to my router's config page and i can ping yahoo's ip address. my window's machine is not having any problems. what should i check?

there is nothing in that file.....
i have the machine setup for dhcp. does that matter?
