are you using dhcp to get the ip of the linux box?

I think, but not positive, even with dhcp your routing table should show something like this:

default 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 0 0 eth0

might try this:
route add default gw 192.168.0.1 eth0 -------> or whatever the ip is of the gateway, shouldnt have to do this though with dhcp.....hmmm

yes it is ONLY on this website

it is DHCP so no that wouldn't help. i'm at a loss.

i don't have windows installed but i don't think it'll have a problem. all other pc's on my LAN connect fine. there's something with the settings in this linux pc....

maybe a hosts.deny entry, maybe a iptables entry gone awfully wrong, a lot of research to be done :(

thanks for all your help anyway and if i ever solve the problem, i'll post the solution

Issue solved. An entry in the iptables chains prevented it from connecting. Don't know which and why, but I'll do some research to find out.

Thanks for all your help.
