You've got a very good point mike, but it works both ways, the younger crowd knows a lot about new hardware and newer things, but when it comes to depth of knowledge it's definitely lacking, especially with older legacy systems/languages that are still very much in use. We use a LOT of perl here which isn't really taught in a lot of the schools' CS programs that I've looked at, it's mostly an elective if it's offered at all. And plus I'm sure you've seen this in action that the best way to gain knowledge in this field is by being around different stuff and people who know about it.
